Burned Biscuits - Author Unknown When I was a kid, my Mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. I remember one night in particular when she made breakfast after a long hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my Mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed. Yet all my Dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my Mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite! When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my Mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits and I'll never forget what he said, "Honey, I love burned biscuits." Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired and besides a little burned biscuits never hurt anyone." I love that story. It reminded me of how my own Mom sometimes fixed breakfast for dinner and it was great. It reminded me how my Dad loved to put jelly or marmalade on anything and everything. ![]() In particular I remember when my Mom had baked a delicious, beautiful lemon meringue pie and much to her chagrin she witnessed my dad put orange marmalade on it. Craziness ensued as she threw some pie at my dad and he reached in the jar and chased my Mom with a handful of marmalade destined for her hair. ![]() We all laughed so hard. It was a lesson learned: You can put jelly on anything BUT not on my Mom's lemon meringue pie. I miss my parents and am forever thankful I got to be one of their daughters. Wednesday, March 23

'Supermoon' Rises: Biggest Full Moon in 18 Years Occurs Saturday Night
![]() Thanks to Yahoo News for the following text: At its peak, the supermoon of March may appear 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than lesser full moons (when the moon is at its farthest from Earth), weather permitting. Yet to the casual observer, it may be hard to tell the difference. The supermoon will not cause natural disasters, such as the Japan earthquake, a NASA scientist has stressed. Spotting the supermoon The moon has not been in a position to appear this large since March 1993. I am happy that this same amazing moon will be shining over those I love and miss that are miles away. May they all be safe, happy and healthy and know how very much they are loved. Friday, March 18
Have you seen the commercial of the guy who is told he accidentally hit "reply all" and goes nuts?
In this age of technology we all need to be careful when sending messages. I came across this article and had to laugh.

"Consider the case of the Illinois man who left the snow-filled streets of Chicago for a vacation in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day. When he reached his hotel, he decided to send her a quick email. Unable to find the scrap of paper on which he'd written her email address, he did his best to type it in from memory. Unfortunately, he missed one letter and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher's wife, whose husband had passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her email, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream and fainted. At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen: Dearest Wife: Just got checked in. Everything's prepared for your arrival tomorrow. P.S. Sure is hot here Thursday, March 17
Surprised this morning to find out I am in an ESPN Tournament.
![]() My son, Jim surprised me by posting my brackets along with his family's on this site. http://games.espn.go.com/tcmen/en/group?groupID=188448 It will be hilarious if I do well. My son, Tom's children Hope and Noah are excellent basketball players as are Jim's sons Jake and Jonah. Maybe in the future I will have grandchildren playing college basketball. Wednesday, March 16
I've noticed...
![]() When I have been in the grocery store recently, I have seen Spring Breakers checking out and noticed a pattern. Teenagers are buying soft drinks, cereal, chips and cookies. Adults (college age) are buying the same things but add beer and water. Families are buying the same and adding sandwich fixings, to the soft drinks, water and beer, cereal, milk, chips and cookies. Every group also goes two doors down and gets pizza to take back to their rooms. Spring Breakers and the NCAA Men's Basketball playoffs are helping our economy on St Pete Beach. Hotels, restaurants, souvenior stores, putt putt and even our grocery stores are benefiting. Just the boost we need. Thank you visitors. May you enjoy our sunshine and sugary white beaches and return often. Tuesday, March 15
My brackets are done
![]() I have filled out my brackets. I have Ohio State, Duke, Pittsburgh and Kansas going to the Final Four with Ohio State playing Pittsburgh in the final with Pittsburgh the champion. Sunday, March 13
New appreciation
![]() I have a new appreciation for the people who participate in the Biggest Loser TV Show. I have watched them undergo tremendous, vigorous training sessions. Day after day they put their overweight bodies through aerobic and weight training and general abuse burning calories. Last week I began my own attempt to move down the number on my scale. My doctor has said I have a hypothyroid condition and what I have been doing has merely kept me from gaining so I am taking it up a few notches. After the first 3 days YIKES! my body was not happy. Pain and difficulty moving all took place. I have a new appreciation for the men and women who face the challenges of the Biggest Loser. It is far easier to watch from the couch than to actually get my butt up and join in. I want to lose and get more fit. The health advantages "outweigh" the difficulties. ![]() Maybe next week I will be posting success. I am going to make the effort. Friday, March 11
Earthquakes and a Tsunami devastated Japan today
Thank goodness for technology. I am one of those who says it has its pros and cons. It helps you be in contact with people despite the miles or time zones but a few words sent by text, e-mail or via Facebook can be, sometimes, impersonal.

Today was a perfect example of the benefits of technology. People were able to let family members on the other side of the world know they were safe. We got to witness the devastation first hand. My prayers go out to all effected and in harms way. May those that are trapped be found. I am blessed to be warm and safe. Many in Haiti are still living outside or in makeshift tents. Now many in Japan are homeless. I feel blessed to have a home and know that my family members are also safe. Tuesday, March 8

![]() Sometimes we find situations and challenges and find ourselves saying, "I've tried everything. All that is left is to pray." The thing is we have it backward. We should pray first. With God all things are possible. Don't put the cart before the horse, start with prayer.
Great Weekend
It was so much fun at Daytona Beach on Saturday. One day of bike week is a great way to spend a day. So many people. So many tattoos. So many bikes.

A roar filled the air. The assortment of people was amazing. It was a great opportunity for people watching and discovering what is new in that world. It was especially fun to see David test drive a Can-Am. It looks like an offspring of something from one of the Transformer movies. He even got to drive it out on the street after the test drive in the parking lot. Great way, scary way to test it out considering all the traffic! I loved seeing the ocean. My favorite side of Florida is definitely the Gulf but I enjoy seeing the waves and surfers on the Atlantic side. We only have waves when the wind is strong. Both Saturday and Sunday were postcard perfect weather days. Drove to Daytona with the top down and on Sunday I again enjoyed driving with the wind in my hair. I now have hair and it gets tangled - yeah! Sunday morning I was delighted when I received an Instant Message from Clif Genge. It stirred up wonderful memories when I lived in Wellsboro, Pa. Our families did lots of things together. It was a very happy time in my marriage. I loved that we would combine our food and have joint dinners. Tom and Jim got along great with the Genges' daughter and son. His wife Judy and I worked together to get reading programs in schools. My husband and Clif worked together at Corning. I remember sitting in a chair at Clif and Judy's home on New Year's Eve and saying my only wish would be that we would all be togeher the next year. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. In fact we left Wellsboro to head to Tennessee before the next week was over. Telling my sons that we were about to move again was the hardest thing I had to do. We had moved several times before but this was the hardest because we were so happy. Much of that happiness was due to the kindness of the Genges and the fun we shared. Hearing from Clif and catching up was terrific. They are loved and missed. It always feels great to be remembered. This week has started out wonderfully. I am looking forward to the possibilities it holds. Sunday, March 6
CAN-AM SPYDER Test Ride
I went to Daytona Bike Week yesterday. I like to drive up for one day. It gives me a chance to witness the craziness and see the incredible bikes. This year I was introduced to the Can-Am Spyder Roadster. It isn't actually a motorcycle. It is different. It has many of the same aspects of a motorcycle including speed however the two wheels in the front, combined with its overall structure, gives it more stability. Stability is a very good thing (smile). I also like its many storage compartments. It even has a trailer that can be pulled behind when you are traveling long distances. In my imagination, I could happily envision myself on the back of the Can-Am and making a roadtrip along the coast of Florida headed to El Paso, Texas to visit my son, Tom, and his family. As part of this dream I would have flown my son, Jim, and his family to El Paso to meet us. Then all of us in various vehicles would head to the Grand Canyon. ![]() One of the greatest experiences of my life was witnessing the sunrise at the Grand Canyon. It would be a wondrous experience to watch the sunrise at the rim of the Grand Canyon with them. Friday, March 4

Be patient and have faith. Sometimes time itself can make a positive difference.
A year ago my hair was missing, only stubble topped my head. I wore a wig.

This year my hair has grown back. It has been growing for months and the stubble has grown into nearly shoulder length locks. It is a great example that sometimes you just have to be patient and have faith. Patience isn't my strong suit but faith is something I have in abundance. Thursday, March 3

Are human beings endangered species?
![]() War, terrorism, murder, natural disasters, accidents, drugs and disease have long been recognized as causes of death. Lately, I've been wondering about the effects of science, technology and financial concerns causing the elimination of the human race. History has given us lessons from the Bible, to the industrial revolution, to today where beliefs and "progress" have annihilated groups and individuals. In some cultures people were killed because of their faith, because they couldn't bear children or didn't produce a male offspring. Over the years, the financial need to increase production has eliminated more and more jobs as assembly lines have been replaced by machines. Economically it makes sense however it has displaced many who had jobs. Have you noticed the increase in "self check-out" counters in Walmart, Home Depot and other stores. Machines, computers and robots can do the work of many with much less expense and increased consistency. The ever-increasing cost of living, mounting Federal and State debt have taken a toll. No longer can demands be met to help the growing number of people who find themselves homeless, unemployed on welfare or unable to pay for needed medical care. The huge number of us born with-in the same 10 year period have created an enormous strain on our medical profession. We are the largest number of people in history over 60 years old. No way around it, after more than half a century, our bodies need help. The "personal touch" of face to face communication between people has been replaced by texting, e-mails and social media. A computer's artificial intelligence beat two extremely brilliant contestants on Jeopardy. Don't get me wrong, I am not against science and technology. If it wasn't for science and technology I wouldn't enjoy many of the devices I love. I wouldn't have a car to drive, light in the dark, a way to instantly be connected to family and friends despite the miles. I wouldn't be able to blog and share my ramblings. I wouldn't have robotic surgery and gone home the next day. I'm not saying "back in the good old days" because this renaissance has been evolving since the beginning of time. I feel blessed. I am just wondering, as I enjoy this last chapter of my life adventure, what will life be like for the grandchildren of my grandchildren? Wednesday, March 2
