Most every child has heard their parent say, "You can be anything you want to be. If you work hard and believe in your dream."
I believe this election was NOT about race. I believe that the results DID validate that it is possible that anyone can be President of the United States. That there are no limits to possibilities. The color of your skin, your race, your gender, your religion don't qualify a person or UNqualify a person for this position of responsibility. As a mom and grandma I hope that this morning people realize that even if their candidate didn't win, there is an important positive message in the results. I think there is now more truth in the words of our parents.

I think it is fantastic that so many people voted in this election. People that never voted before registered and the youth voted in huge numbers. Martin Luther King, Jr. "I Have a Dream" Delivered 28 August 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today! |
