George Burns won his first Oscar when he was 80. In 1962, four young musicians auditioned for Decca Records. The executives dismissed them saying, "We don't like their sound. Groups of guitars are on the way out." The Beatles left without a contract. Golda Meir was 71 when she became Prime Minister of Israel. George Benard Shaw was 94 when one of his plays was first produced. In 1954, Elvis Presley was fired by the manager of the Grand Old Opry, who said, "You ain't goinin' nowhere...son. You ought to go back to drivin' a truck." Colonel Harlan Sanders was broke and the recipient of a $102 monthly social Security check at 65. He began from there to evaluate what he could offer of value and went on to create millionaires all across the world in the chicken business. Winston Churchill assumed the role of Great Britain's Prime Minister at 65. At 70, he addressed the crowds on V-E Day standing on top of his car to speak. Charlie Chaplin, at 75 was still directing movies. After it took Thomas Edison 2000 tries to invent the light bulb, a young reporter asked him how it felt to fail so many times. "I never failed once," Edison said. "It just happened to be a 2000-step process." Grandma Moses did not start painting until she was 78 years old. She completed over 1500 paintings in the remainder of her life, with 25% of those produced after she was 100. Quality, success, contributions - making a difference, is not a chronological issue. Before you decide you are too old to try something new or experience an adventure or face a new challenge, consider the people mentioned. They didn't let criticism or age interfere, it didn't stop them. May nothing stop you from living your life fully. The biggest regret you may face is the risks you didn't take. 0 comments 0 Comments:Post a Comment |
