Wooden's Wisdom
The September issue of Success Magazine included an article by John C. Maxwell highlighting the wisdom of UCLA Basketball Coach John Wooden. Coach Wooden was not only a winning coach but an inspirational leader and man. He will be missed. Here are some of his quotes that I especially like. They serve as reminders on how to live. I hope you enjoy them and that maybe they remind you of behaviors we should each put into action.

"Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out." "If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over." "Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do." "Talent is God-given. Be Humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful." "Make each day your masterpiece." "I know you're tired and maybe you didn't do well on your exam or maybe your girlfriend broke up with you, and you're only giving me half today. I know you're thinking that tomorrow you'll give 150 percent. But you can't give 150 percent. You can only give 100 percent. What you leave on the table today, you leave for good." "Success is never final; failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts." Friday, August 13
Chipper Jones and my Mom
![]() My Mom loved the Atlanta Braves. She would be thrilled that they are doing so well this season. Her favorite player was Chipper Jones. He is considered the heart of the team and my Mom was definitely the heart of our family. He is a switch hitter. It is possible for him to step up to the plate and handle whatever is thrown at him. My Mom was amazing in much the same way. No matter what the situation or challenge she seemed to find a way to step up and handle whatever was thrown at her. I miss my Mom everyday. Her role in my life is not replaceable. Unfortunately, Chipper Jones got hurt and is out for the season. My Mom would surely be telling us that he too is irreplaceable. Thank you Mom for being amazing. I too have come to love baseball and have my favorite players. David Price on the Rays and Jim Thome aka the Thominator. Thursday, August 12
Only bunnies, bugs and squirrels to keep me company.
Today I walked in Seminole Park. As the song says, "sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy" however humidity just wears me out!

I thought walking at the park would be cooler but not so much. Even in the shade it was super hot. I was sweating so much at one point it was pouring off me as though I was in a shower. Good way to get rid of toxins but generally yucky. Today my only companions on the trail were some rabbits, squirrels and lots of bugs. The standing water was making the bugs especially numerous and happy. Usually, I see turtles, armadillos, raccoons and occasionally alligators and snakes. They may have been smarter than me and instead of being out exercising they were relaxing in their homes. It is wonderful to be back to walking my 10,000 steps a day. I have been doing it in the comfort of the air conditioned malls but prefer the outside and even in today's heat, it was great. |
