Getting to know me:
I am blessed with an over active enthusiasm gland and an appreciation of the precious gift of life.

I am trying to break lose of being a hostage "to what I should do."

Do I have the courage to step across the threshold into the exciting world of possibilities?!?

Counting blessings this Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope that you are enjoying a safe, happy, healthy Thanksgiving with your family and friends.

Although geographically I am far from my family this year, I keep them close in my thoughts, memories and heart.

This has been a year of extreme happiness and wonder and a time of deep sadness. It is easy for me to know the happiest time. That was the weekend of January 18th-19th. Not only was it my first book signing and celebration of launching Ideas Unlimited, Inc. I got to share the weekend with both my sons and their families. Unfortunately Carol and Jonah were unable to join us but they called and thanks to technology joined us long distance. It was a fun weekend I shall always keep as a treasured memory.

Anyone who knows me will understand why this article in the paper gave me a special smile today. It looks like the idea of saying, "thank-you" to the men and women of the Fire Departments is spreading. That certainly makes my Thanksgiving extra special!

By Neil Johnson The Tampa Tribune
Published: November 25, 2008

ST. PETERSBURG - Mike Alstott carried a pigskin for 11 years for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Today he carried turkeys for firefighters.

Alstott and his family delivered Thanksgiving Day groceries to the 13 fire stations in St. Petersburg for the firefighters and paramedics scheduled to work Thursday. Alstott, the team leader in touchdowns and perhaps the most popular Bucs player, called the firefighters heroes.
"The firefighters and men and women that serve our community are heroes," he said. "They protect us."

Alstott, joined by his wife and children, toured the city's stations, unloading groceries from the back of a pickup. The food included turkeys, canned goods, rolls, pies and whatever else will be needed to create a holiday meal, said Lt. Joel Granata, spokesman for St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue.

This is the first time Alstott, through the Mike Alstott Family Foundation, has donated Thanksgiving Day meals to the city's fire stations.

Sharing is the greatest part of this wonderful holiday. May you recall happy memories this Thanksgiving and if you are separated from your loved ones may technology link you.

Thank you very much.
Thank you very much for the kind words of congratulations and encouragement. I am thrilled to have received e-mails saying the article I wrote, "told it like it is." I was amazed that so many people who knew me read Opportunity World Magazine and on top of that would take the time to contact me. Awesome!!!!

I will send an individual thank you to each of you. Currently I am in chilly - correct that very cold West Virginia. I return late tomorrow night to Florida.

It has been an early Thanksgiving for me this year. My son Jim, received a favorable report on the progress of his detached retina. I have been given a wonderful opportunity over the past several days to share time with my grandsons, Jake and Jonah and feel needed while Carol is attending a conference in Nashville. It was very nice of her to invite me to help out. I also heard from my son Tom that his family is happily settling into life in Texas. I'll have turkey on Thursday but my Thanksgiving blessings arrived early.

May each of you enjoy a safe and happy Thanksgiving with your family and friends. Judy

Second Chances
It is almost a national pastime to "Second Guess" others, situations and ourselves. Being an arm chair quarterback isn't the immanent domain of the sports fan. People do it everyday. It is easy to judge what you would have done in a certain situation or if you were them you would have behaved differently.

It is "Second Guessing" that makes us look over our shoulder at the past and think
"I should have done this" or "If only I done that" or "I should have recognized the signs" or "I shouldn't have been so naive." We can beat ourselves up for years second quessing BUT the past is gone and we can't change it no matter how much we may wish we could. We can only learn from it and make the most of today and tomorrow.

It would be wonderful if we could be as forgiving of ourselves as we are of others and if we could give ourselves the "Second Chances" we generously allow others.

My wish for you today is to give yourself a "Second Chance" silence the internal dialogue that runs through your mind beating you up. Today be nice to yourself as well as to others.

We all have big changes in our lives that are more or less a second chance.

We're given second chances every day of our life. We don't usually take them, but they're there for the taking.

Wishing you a happy day!
Julian Beever is an English artist who is famous for his anamorphic art on the pavements of England, France, Germany, USA, Australia and Belgium. He gives an amazing illusion to his drawings, so that the objects appear to be three dimensional rather than flat as they actually are. People actually avoid the hole.

Hard to believe that the little boy is standing flat on the pavement!
Julian admits that some people see his work as graffiti, and don't feel it has a place on public streets. Happily, he says, he mostly receives a positive reaction and people like and enjoy his art.

Most every child has heard their parent say, "You can be anything you want to be. If you work hard and believe in your dream."
I believe this election was NOT about race. I believe that the results DID validate that it is possible that anyone can be President of the United States. That there are no limits to possibilities. The color of your skin, your race, your gender, your religion don't qualify a person or UNqualify a person for this position of responsibility. As a mom and grandma I hope that this morning people realize that even if their candidate didn't win, there is an important positive message in the results. I think there is now more truth in the words of our parents.

I think it is fantastic that so many people voted in this election. People that never voted before registered and the youth voted in huge numbers.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

"I Have a Dream"

Delivered 28 August 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

Lou Holtz does magic with a message that goes beyond football. Enjoy!

Who would have guessed Lou knew magic?!? Have faith and belief in possibilities.

Don't look now but YOU may be a Guardian Angel in someone's life and not even realize it.
Thank you goes out to my friends the Genge's for sharing this wonderful story with me. May it remind you that even a small act of kindness on your part may be a miracle to someone. You can make a positive difference in a person's life.

I was driving home from a meeting this evening about 5 PM, stuck in traffic on Colorado Blvd., when my car started to choke, sputter and die. I barely managed to coast into a gas station. It wouldn't turn over.

Before I could make the call, I saw a woman walking out of the 'quickie mart' building, and it looked like she slipped on some ice and fell into a Gas pump, so I got out to see if she was okay.

When I got there, it looked more like she had been overcome by sobs than that she had fallen; she was a young woman who looked really haggard with dark circles under her eyes. She dropped something as I helped her up, and I picked it up to give it to her. It was a nickel.

At that moment, everything came into focus for me: the crying woman, the ancient Suburban crammed full of stuff with 3 kids in the back (1 in a car seat), and the gas pump reading $4.95.

I asked her if she was okay and if she needed help, and she just kept saying 'I don't want my kids to see me crying,' so we stood on the other side of the pump from her car. She said she was driving to California and that things were very hard for her right now. So I asked, "And you were praying?" That made her back away from me a little unsure. but I assured her I was not a crazy person and said, "He heard you and he sent me."

I took out my card and swiped it through the card reader on the pump so she could fill up her car completely, and while it was fueling, walked to the next door McDonald's and bought 2 big bags of food, some gift certificates for more, and a big cup of coffee.

She gave the food to the kids in the car, who attacked it like wolves, and we stood by the pump eating fries and talking a little.

She told me her name, and that she lived in Kansas City. Her husband had left 2 months ago and she had not been able to make ends meet. She knew she wouldn't have the money to pay the rent and in desperation called her parents with whom she had not spoken in about 5 years. They lived in California and said she could come live with them and try to get on her feet there. So she packed up everything she owned and put it in the car. She told the kids they were going to California to see their grandparents for Christmas, but not that they were going to live there.

I gave her my gloves, a little hug and said a quick prayer with her for safety on the road. As I was walking over to my car, she said, "So, are you like an angel or something?"

I said, "Sweetie, at this time of year angels are really busy, so sometimes God uses regular people."

It was so incredible to be a part of someone else's miracle. And of course, you guessed it, when I got in my car it started right away and got me home with no problem. I'll put it in the shop tomorrow to check, but I suspect the mechanic won't find anything wrong.

Psalms 55:22 "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee. He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."

We currently purchase a tremendous amount of goods and raw materials from China. Perhaps we should also consider their advice.
"Deal with the faults of others as gently as with your own." Chinese proverb

I have often said people are like icebergs. So much of their lives are hidden from view, under the surface. We only see a small part based on the circumstances our life adventures' cross or entwine.

"All we see of someone at any moment is a snapshot of their life, where they're in riches or poverty, in joy or despair. Snapshots don't show the million decisions that led to that moment." Richard Bach

I like this quote because I think it's saying how we should remember that we don't know what people have had to go through that makes them how they are. We should get to know them and understand their past before we determine that we know them. I believe most people do the best they can with the information, and knowledge they have at the time. When they know better they do better. When circumstances change and different choices seem available they may be made.

It is sad to me that so often in life we are left feeling not quite good enough. We look to others, our family, friends, loved ones to remind us that we are worthy of being loved, respected and liked. I know that we should keep the power of our self-worth in our own hands. Unfortunately, knowing it and doing it can sometimes be difficult.

"If you judge people, you don't have time to love them." Mother Theresa

“Remember that I’m Human. Before you judge me or decide how you’ll deal with me, walk awhile in my shoes. If you do, I think you’ll find with more understanding we can meet in the middle and walk the rest of the way together.”
Eric Harvey and Steve Ventura: "Walk Awhile in My Shoes"

"When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself." Unknown

"Judge not, that ye be not judged."
The Bible, New Testament, Matthew chapter 7, verse 1
