I am blessed with an over active enthusiasm gland and an appreciation of the precious gift of life.

I am trying to break lose of being a hostage "to what I should do."

Do I have the courage to step across the threshold into the exciting world of possibilities?!?

Great fun last night as I joined in the celebration to welcome back our Division Champion Rays!
As you can see, it is all about the hair. Seems everyone is wearing a mohawk and many have gone for the blue look. Go Rays!

He led an amazing life. His movies are his gift to us forever.
From the New York Times, September 17, 2008

Paul Newman, an ambitious, intellectual actor and a passionate student of his craft, achieved what most of his peers find impossible: remaining a major star into craggy, charismatic old age. He acted in more than 65 movies over more than 50 years. He was also an entrepreneur, a philanthropist and a racecar driver. He died on Sept. 27 at his home in Westport, Conn., at 83.

Years ago, it was my surprise and pleasure to receive a kiss on my cheek from Mr. Newman. He was in St. Petersburg with his racing team to participate in one of the first Grand Prix races held downtown. Walking through the Pit Area I was excited and as usual not paying total attention to where I was walking and bumped right into Paul Newman as he came around the corner of one of the car transports. I was dumbfounded. He was there, in person in a blue racing suit. I tried to mumble an apology and he said no problem, kissed me on the cheek and continued on his way. It was an amazing heart racing experience.

No doubt Mr. Newman will also remember that day but unfortunately for a sad reason. His racing partner crashed into one of the walls and was killed. It was a devastating accident.

Paul Newman is synonymous with living a life that was considered by many as unconventional. His marriage lasted longer thanmost any other "Hollywood Marriage." He was able to keep his "private life" mostly private and his interests were diverse. He gave back to the world in many ways. His life adventure had a positive effect on the lives of many and it will continue to improve the life circumstance of people for years to come.

Thank you Mr. Paul Newman, for the kiss, for your movies, for your food, for your philanthropy and most importantly...thank you for your example.

Going through some papers, I found this sent from my sister, Wendy, 10/3/00

One day an expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students and to drive home a point used an illustration those students will never forget. As he stood in front of the group high powered overachievers he said, "Okay, time for a quiz."

Then he pulled out a one gallon, wide mouthed Mason jar and set it on the table in front of him. Then he produced a dozen fist sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time into the jar. When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "is this jar full?" Everyone in the class said, "Yes." then he said, "Really?" He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel. Then he dumped some gravel in and shook the jar causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the space between the big rocks. Then he asked the group once more, "is the jar full?" By this time the class was on to him. "Probably not," one of them answered. "Good!" he replied. He reached under the table and brought out a bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in the jar and it went into all of the spaces left between the rocks and gravel. Once again he asked the question, "Is this jar full?" "No!" the class shouted. Once again he said, "Good." Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it until the jar was filled to the brim. Then he looked at the class and asked, "What is the point of this illustration?" One eager student raised his hand and said , "The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard you can always fit some more things in it!" "No," the speaker replied, "That's not the point."

"The truth this illustration teaches us is: If you don't put the big rocks first, you'll never get them in at all." What are the big rocks in your life? Your children, your loved ones, your friends, your education, your dreams, a worthy cause, doing things you love, your health, your faith, time for yourself. Remember to put these BIG ROCKS in first or you'll never get them in at all. If you sweat the little stuff (the gravel, the sand) then you'll fill your life with little things you worry about that don't really matter and you'll never have the real quality time you need to spend on the big important things (the big rocks). So today when you are reflecting on this short story, ask yourself, "What are the big rocks in my life?" Then put them first.

Thank you Wendy. Definitely my family is one of my most precious "Big Rocks."

To think fans were hoping we would break 500 this season.

The playoffs are within their grasp. They might win the Division. It is a great example of teamwork and belief in possibilities. Go Rays!

UPDATE:
Rays clinch club's first playoff spot
Tampa Bay makes history by earning postseason berth
By Brittany Ghiroli / MLB.com

Saturday's emotional driven 7-2 win over the Twins in front of a home sellout crowd of 36,048, clinched the Rays' franchise-first postseason appearance. Additionally, the win -- coupled with Boston's loss to Toronto -- extends Tampa Bay's lead atop the American League East to 2 1/2 games.

Congratulations! Next we hope for the Division Title and on to the World Series.

This young team has exceeded most fans expectations. Teamwork and believing in themselves is what the Rays attribute for their success.

Ever feel stuck???
Sure we all do. Maybe it is because we don't know which direction to take in our lives. Maybe we are stuck trying to make a decision? Maybe we are caught up in something and don't know how to change or get out. Maybe it is a question of feeling you are wrong if you do or wrong if you don't. Sometimes we are stuck just trying to get the creative juices flowing or juggling all life's responsibilities.

If you feel like you are stuck between a rock and a hard place today remember one thing...

Everyone has been there. The important thing is to not stay there. It isn't the time to give up, it is the time to have faith and figure a way out. Dare to try. So what if you make mistakes along the way. Try again. You don't want to remain there and use it as an excuse. No one gets a free pass to sit on life's sidelines just because it sometimes gets tough.

You can do it! You are awesome! Afterall God doesn't make junk. You are loved.

I couldn't help but smile.
Today I was having brunch at a neat little restaurant in St. Pete called Kissin' Cousins'. I was having a nice time when it was brought to my attention that an elderly gentleman and lady had been seated behind me.

They were probably in their middle to late 80's and frail BUT they were enjoying each others company so much and seemed to be glowing with happiness. All too often it seems when you look around a restaurant you see couples not talking and rarely smiling. This couple (according to the waitress) apparently come in a couple of times a week and splurge on a dry Manhattan which they drink slowly while enjoying laughter and conversation.

If you take the time to notice there are nice things happening right in front of us. It makes for a nice contrast to storms and the economy. Seeing them made me smile and reminded me that I should take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the "present," the gift of this glorious day.

Prayers go out to those in the path of Hurricane Ike.
HOUSTON (Sept. 12) - Hurricane Ike, a colossal storm nearly as big as Texas itself, began battering the coast Friday, threatening to obliterate waterfront towns and give the skyscrapers, refineries and docks of the nation's fourth-largest city their worst pounding in a generation.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am hoping that people heeded the warnings and evacuated. It is frightening to think they may lose their homes and belongings but worse than anything would be to find their lives in jeopardy. Those of us that have been sparred because Ike veered west are praying that all survive.

Exciting news...

Rays' Price chosen USA TODAY's top minor leaguer

By Mel Antonen, USA TODAY
Pitcher David Price, a left-hander from Vanderbilt who pitched at three levels in the Tampa Bay Rays' organization, is USA TODAY's Minor League Player of the Year.

Price won the award in a vote by the staff of USA TODAY and Sports Weekly as well as online voting for fans.

Price, 23, is a 6-6 lefty with a strong arm that has drawn comparisons to Randy Johnson, Steve Carlton and Andy Pettitte. Price mixes a fastball in the high 90s with a slider in the high 80s, but his Class AAA pitching coach, Xavier Hernandez, said that he needs to work on getting better with his changeup.

"It's important for a young pitcher, and he's got the desire to learn it," Hernandez says.
After his junior season with the Commodores, Tampa Bay made Price the No. 1 selection in the 2007 draft. An elbow strain in spring training delayed his minor-league debut until May 22. Then he dominated.

Price went 11-0 with a 1.87 ERA in 15 starts at Class A Vero Beach (Fla.) and Class AA Montgomery (Ala.) Price was 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA for Class AAA Durham (N.C.).

Thank you USA Today for the fantastic news. What with storms and a slumping economy and the various things that effect our everyday life it is nice to read about good things happening to good people. Congratulations to David Price. Go Rays!
